When you need the Fetchit browser extension, how to add it, and how to choose which browser opens your records.

A browser window with the Fetchit extension connected to a client record

If your business software runs in a web browser, Fetchit uses a small browser extension to open client records in it when you click a popup. It opens the caller's record, searches for them, or starts a new client, right in the tab you already use.

Do you need it?

You need the extension if your business software is one you sign in to in a web browser. You don't need it if your software is a program installed on your computer; Fetchit opens those directly. Supported systems shows which is which: "In the cloud" means the browser.

Adding it

  1. Install Fetchit first

The extension works together with the Fetchit desktop app, so install Fetchit and sign in on the computer before anything else.
  2. Add the extension

Open the Fetchit extension in the Chrome Web Store (below) and choose Add to Chrome. If you skip this step, Fetchit opens the store page for you the first time a call needs it.
  3. That's it

There is nothing to sign in to or set up in the extension itself. Click a popup to try it.

The extension works in Google Chrome and in browsers built on it, such as Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi and Opera, which can all add extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

Choosing a browser

Fetchit opens records in your default browser unless you choose one. To pick a browser, open Settings and go to Browser Settings. Every open browser with the extension is listed; choose one, and it's marked In use. If that browser isn't open when a call comes in, Fetchit uses your default browser until it is.

Turn on Open in new tab if you'd like each popup to open a new tab rather than reusing the one your business software is in.

If it isn't working

Browser Settings shows how the extension is doing:

StatusWhat to do
Not connectedNo browser with the extension is open. Open your browser, and add the extension if you haven't.
Update neededThe extension is out of date. Update it from your browser's extensions page.
Not respondingRestart that browser. That usually fixes it.
